If you are a woman chances are you have read at least one Nicholas Sparks novel. If you haven’t, than I can almost guarantee you have watched a film that was adapted from one of his books. If you are a man I think it is pretty safe to say that one night, whether you will admit to it or not, your girlfriend or wife has probably talked you into watching one of these teary love stories. There hasn’t been a Sparks novel yet that hasn’t had me crying like a baby by the end. I am not a hopeless romantic by any means but there is something about the way that he writes a love story that has even me hooked. Sparks has written 17 novels, all New York Times best-sellers, that have sold more than 95 million copies worldwide, I think I have probably read about 12 of them. Eight of Sparks’ books have been made into films, five of which were box office hits. THE NOTEBOOK, MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE, A WALK TO REMEMBER, DEAR JOHN and THE LUCKY ONE were not only a hit at the box office but remain in my library of films to watch when I am in need of a good cry or a little hope.
The film adaptation of one of his latest novels THE BEST OF ME is due in theaters on October 17 and the adaptation of his novel THE LONGEST RIDE is currently in post-production. It only seems fitting that the next Sparks film to make its way to the big screen comes from the man himself. The first feature film from Nicholas Sparks Productions THE CHOICE based on the #1 New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sparks’s novel of the same name began its first day of shooting on October 13, 2014 in Wilmington, NC. Directed by Ross Katz (TAKING CHANCE) and screenplay by Bryan Sipe (A MILLION MILES), the film stars Benjamin Walker, Teresa Palmer, Maggie Grace, Alexandra Daddario, Tom Welling and Tom Wilkinson. Sparks and Theresa Park are partnering with Peter Safran (THE CONJURING , ANNABELLE) to produce and finance the film. Lionsgate’s Jason Constantine, president of acquisitions and co-productions and Eda Kowan, executive vice president, acquisitions and co-productions will oversee the project for the studio. With so many talented people involved in the project it could potentially be as successful as THE NOTEBOOK.
THE CHOICE is described as follows:
“THE CHOICE” tells the story of Travis Parker (Walker) and Gabby Holland (Palmer), who meet first as neighbors in a small coastal town and end up pursuing a relationship that neither could have foreseen. Spanning a decade and tracing the evolution of a love affair that is ultimately tested by life’s most defining events, this story features a memorable ensemble of friends and family in Sparks’s beloved North Carolina setting, culminating in the question that every couple must ask themselves: how far would you go to keep the hope of love alive?”
With principal photography on THE CHOICE just getting started we have a ways to go before we get our first glimpse of the film, but no need to worry we have two Nicholas Sparks adaptations on the way. Don’t miss THE BEST OF ME opening in theatres everywhere on October 17, 2014 and be sure to bring your tissues. If you missed the trailer make sure and check it out below.
