With Awards Season in full swing everyone is starting to put out their list of the top movies of 2014. In the December 12, 2014 edition of Entertainment Weekly writer Chris Nashaway reveals his top 10 best films and the five worst films of 2014. His top 10 films are as follows:
- THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL
- LIFE ITSELF
- GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
- GONE GIRL
- JODOROWSKY’S DUNE
Nashaway’s top 5 worst films of 2014 are:
- NYMPHOMANIAC VOLUMES I & II
- TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION
- LET’S BE COPS
- THE MONUMENTS MEN
Nashaway covers lots of best and worst moments in the movie industry for 2014 and I highly suggest going and grabbing a copy ASAP or checking it out online. It is for sure a fun read. One of my favorite parts of his 2014 movie coverage is his choice for Female Breakout which he awards to, the girl I can’t stop talking about, the oh so talented rising star Gugu Mbatha-Raw who had a killer year with her two breakout films BELLE and BEYOND THE LIGHTS. I gave both films rave reviews and Mbatha-Raw is most certainly on my people to watch out for in 2015 and the actress already has a very busy year coming up with not one, but three new films including the Wachowskis” JUPITER ASCENDING set to hit theatres in the upcoming year.
While I will agree with most of Nashaway’s picks I am a bit surprised that a few are missing especially THE IMITATION GAME and THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING. While I have not seen the upcoming film THE MOST VIOLENT YEAR or UNBROKEN I have this strange feeling that they will quickly be added to my top ten films of 2014.
So what does this mean for awards season? Well it is no doubt that both WHIPLASH and BOYHOOD are at the top of almost everyone’s list and you can be sure to hear both films named on nomination day. Stay tuned for more awards coverage and check back soon for The Movie Chickks™ best and worst of 2014 coming soon.
