The 2014 New York Film Critics Circle Awards Winners Are In

The New York Film Critics Circle was founded in 1935, it counts members representing magazines, newspapers and online publications. The presentation of these awards is scheduled for January 5, 2015 in New York. The awards are considered a guide for the Oscars, which will air on 22 February. The winners were announced on Monday December 1, 2014 and there were more than a few surprises, here is the list of the 2014 award winners.

Best Picture: BOYHOOD

Best Director: Richard Linklater, Boyhood

Best Screenplay: THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL

Best Actress: Marion Cotillard, The Immigrant, Two Days, One Night

Best Actor: Timothy Spall, Mr. Turner

Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette, Boyhood

Best Supporting Actor: J.K. Simmons, Whiplash

Best Cinematographer: Darius Khondji, The Immigrant

Best Animated Film: THE LEGO MOVIE

Best Non-Fiction Film (Documentary) : CITIZENFOUR

Best Foreign Film: IDA

Best First Film: Jennifer Kent, The Babadook

Special Award: Adrienne Manci

This year seems to be all over the place when it comes to the best film of the year which makes awards season so much more fun. This years Oscars may be the most exciting one yet, 2014 was certainly an amazing year for films. BOYHOOD and WHIPLASH remain on the top of most lists but with so many spectacular films who will take home the coveted Oscar? It seems to be anyone’s for the taking at the moment which makes this years nominations and awards even more intriguing.
