On April 16, 2015 in Anaheim, California, J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy kicked off the STAR WARS Celebration with an exclusive new look at STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. In attendance were special guests from the film: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Oscar Isaacs as well as veterans of the original saga Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, and Peter Mayhew. The cast and crew shared a behind the scenes look at the upcoming film and, to the surprise of fans around the world, debuted a brand new teaser trailer.
I’ve said it before that I’m the type to keep my expectations low when it comes to upcoming films, but this trailer is precisely everything I could ask for in a STAR WARS trailer. Just hearing John Williams’s score as the speeder bike goes across the desert gave me chills and filled me with same joyful glee that I had when I watched A NEW HOPE in the theater for the first time. This trailer has it all. We hear Mark Hamill’s voice over talking about the force, aerial dogfights, Stormtroopers on the march, a quick glimpse of the man with the red lightsaber’s mask, and of course, seeing Harrison Ford with Chewbacca at the end was perfect. The only thing I can say that’s even close to critiquing it is that we still know next to nothing about Ridley, Boyega, Isaacs’s characters. However, I would prefer having a trailer give the audience too little information rather than too much (I’m looking at you, TERMINATOR GENISYS trailer). Still, the main thing to take away from this trailer is that it feels like a STAR WARS film; there’s action, adventure, great visuals, and beloved characters.
What did you think of the trailer? Are you pumped to run to the theater this Christmas, or are you still not sure that the force is strong with Abrams? Be sure to let us know @TheMovieChickk!
