A new trailer for the Guillermo del Toro horror film CRIMSON PEAK was released on May 13th, 2015, and boy does it look scary! The story revolves around Edith Cushing, played by Mia Wasikowska, an aspiring author coping with the aftermath of a family tragedy. She finds herself torn between love for her childhood friend and a mysterious outsider. In an effort to escape her past, the mysterious man whisks her away to his home, but she soon discovers that the house has a dark past of its own, and she may very well be consumed by it.
The film looks highly stylized and dripping with atmosphere, which is essential for any great horror movie.
Blood spewing from the pipes in a Victorian era house, ghostly figures crawling down the hallway, stylized costumes, creepy architecture, and a vibrant color scheme all makes this film look as though it will be a visual feast, as we’ve come to expect from any film by del Toro. Both Tom Hiddleson and Jessica Chastain look as though they give chilling performances as siblings who know far more about the house than they’re letting on. It’s plain from the trailer that this project is a labor of love for del Toro, as he described the film to Deadline as a “ghost story and Gothic romance” but one that would feel like a “classical, but at the same time modern take on the ghost story.”
The film is scheduled to be released in theaters October 16th 2015. In the meantime, if you need me, I’ll be here at my computer watching the trailer on repeat until then.
What do you think of the new trailer? Are you excited to see this throwback to classic ghost stories, or does this trailer have you running scared? Be sure to let us know @TheMovieChickk!
