Once More Into the Breach: New PACIFIC RIM 2 Details

You already knew there was a PACIFIC RIM sequel in production, right? Well, if you did, then great! We just got more details on said sequel. If you didn’t know, then surprise, PACIFIC RIM 2 is being made! Your day is now 1000% better.

Global News reports that director Guillermo del Toro has confirmed PACIFIC RIM 2’s shooting schedule, which will begin in November and run well into 2016. The film will mostly be shot in Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada, with a working title of Maelstrom (not unlike PACIFIC RIM’S working title of Silent Seas). Del Toro added that the sequel will take place several years after PACIFIC RIM and will focus on the Kaiju. The movie has a projected release date of August 4, 2017. While we don’t have any casting information yet, Rinko Kikuchi (Jaeger pilot Mako Mori), Charlie Hunnam (Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket), Burn Gorman (mathematician Herman Gottlieb), and Charlie Day (scientist Netwon Geiszler) are all expecting to reprise their respective roles.

As if that’s not enough reason to get excited, The Mary Sue has added that, at this past year’s San Diego Comic Con, del Toro made it clear that whether or not he makes a HELLBOY 3 hinges on the success of PACIFIC RIM 2. All the more reason to see what will hopefully be a great sequel to an already great movie.

Did you like PACIFIC RIM? Are you excited for the sequel? If you were a Jaeger pilot, what would your Jaeger’s name be? Comment and let us know!
