Get Ready, Survey Corp Members! The Trailer For ATTACK ON TITAN: PART 2 Is Here!
For those of you who watched our Quick Review of ATTACK ON TITAN: PART 1 (or read the full review) you know I have certain feelings about the liberties the live action adaptation took with the series, some of which were good, some of which were just confusing. For most part, the film was enjoyable for fans of the franchise, although it was not without it’s flaws. My biggest personal pet peeve with the film was that it was broken into two parts like HARRY POTTER AND THE EXTENDED CAMPING TRIP. Well, not to worry, because the trailer for ATTACK ON TITAN: END OF THE WORLD has officially been released! WARNING: The trailer contains spoilers for Part 1, as will the rest of this article, so consider yourself warned.
The description for the video is as follows:
“Eren and the others set out on a mission to restore the Wall that had been destroyed by a colossal Titan, but they’re suddenly faced with a quagmire when they’re attacked by a horde of Titans. Shikishima, the Titan-slaying captain of the Scout Regiment, arrives to save the day, but the Titans show no sign of letting up. During the battle, Eren is badly injured, and in the process of saving his friend Armin, he’s swallowed whole by a Titan. Just as all hope seems to be lost, a mysterious Titan with black hair suddenly appears and begins annihilating the other Titans. ”
“If this mission fails, it will spell the end of humanity. Why did the Titans appear? Why do people continue to fight? The last counterattack to save human civilization is about to begin.”
Anyone who’s seen Part 1, will be able to see that this film picks up where the last film left off, with all of the members of the Scout Regiment shocked at the identity of the Berserker Titan. After finding out that their fallen comrade Eren not only survived being swallowed by a titan, but now has the ability to turn into one, everyone is questioning both his motives and his humanity. Now he, Armin, and Mikasa have to prove that Eren’s new found powers can benefit humanity, or the titans won’t be the only ones trying to destroy Eren. Even worse is the Colossal Titan’s return to the battle! Can our three heroes combine their strength and their wits to save humanity before the end?
Though this film looks like it’s going to have a little bit more of what fans like about the animated series, namely more Titan battles and use of the 3D-manuvering gear, but I’m also skeptical about how they’ll wrap of the story, given that story has yet to be completed in both the show and the manga. Not to mention the character changes mean that there will be numerous plot points that can’t be addressed (I would elaborate, but that would mean massive spoilers for the series, so I might just save that for the full review. Needless to say that I’m very disappointed that my favorite character didn’t make it into the film, but I can understand the need to leave certain characters out). Never the less, even though the film has to make some changes, they’ve created a very unique look at the world inhabited by the Titans, one that is more reminiscent of a modern world ravaged by destruction than it is of Medieval Europe; it’s different, but still intriguing. Though I took issues with certain characterization choices, I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing the conclusion of this tale. Let’s just hope it doesn’t destroy me in the process of watching it like the show and the comic do on a consistent basis.
