Elizabeth Banks really hit all the right notes when she decided to helm PITCH PERFECT 2. Audiences and critics alike were pleasantly surprised at the toe-tapping fun of the sequel, and everyone across the board could agree that Banks had done a splendid job of continuing the story. Well, fans of the Bellas can rejoice because according to a report from Variety, Banks is now officially confirmed to direct the next installment in the Universal and Gold Circle Entertainment musical-comedy.
Also returning to the project on the acting side is Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow, and Rebel Wilson, as well as screenwriter Kay Cannon returning to pen the script. This team has proved to be a match made in heaven, as the original 2012 film grossed $113 million worldwide, while the sequel grossed more than twice that amount at $286 million. Though the third installment in the franchise was announced to be released on August 4th, 2017, Banks had previously been unconfirmed to return to the director’s chair because she’s also currently attached to several projects in development, including Universal’s RED QUEEN and Sony’s CHARLIE’S ANGELS reboot. Though details are scarce on the story and the soundtrack, news that Banks will be helming the third entry in the franchise has me confident that PITCH PERFECT 3 will be putting on a great show!
