PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES Trailer Looks Like Scary Good Fun!

After years of development hell, Lionsgate has finally released an official trailer for the upcoming PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES adaptation, starring Lily James as Elizabeth, Ellie Bamber as Lydia, Millie Brady as Mary, Bella Heathcote as Jane, and Suki Waterhouse as Kitty. Together, these ladies look like they’ll be slaying the undead in true Victorian fashion—that is to say, like total bosses!

The story is basically what you’d expect from a movie called PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES; Jane Austen’s classic tale “begins with the tangled relationship between lovers from different social classes in 19th century England, and is complicated by a full on outbreak of zombies.”

As we discussed in our SDCC 2015 coverage, Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel has been stuck in development for several years, with many fans believing it would never see the light of day after the adaptation of Grahame-Smith’s ABRAHAM LINCOLN VAMPIRE HUNTER failed to meet expectations at the box office. However, even an official trailer for PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES has many horror fans skeptical for the film, as the original book is often criticized as being 80% PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and 20% zombies, in that the aspects of the story focused around Elizabeth fighting the undead often feel disjointed and out of place. Still, based on what we see from the trailer, it looks like filmmakers have taken the title and are running with it to its full potential. If I were to give one complaint about the trailer, it’s that the zombies themselves don’t look particularly impressive. I’m accustomed to watching television shows like THE WALKING DEAD and Z NATION, both of which take a tremendous amount care in their zombie makeup designs. With shows like these consistently upping the ante when it comes to zombie designs, it’s a little underwhelming to just see a generic zombie nowadays—in an oversaturated market, a zombie film needs to go the extra mile to set its monsters apart. That being said, I’m still delighted to see this movie finally coming to life.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES will open in theaters on February 5th, 2016.
