On Christmas, a man in a red suit stopped by everyone’s homes to give them gifts. No, I’m not talking about Santa – I’m talking about the two new DEADPOOL trailers that dropped on the 25th.
Admittedly, they’re fairly similar – there’s a green band version and a red band version, so if you’re okay with language and violence in your trailer, you might as well skip straight to the red band trailer to get a more accurate representation of what the movie’s going to be about.
DEADPOOL tells the story of Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), an ex-Special Forces operative who undergoes an experimental therapy in an attempt to cure his terminal cancer. It goes horribly right, as the treatment makes him indestructible but messes with his skin and his mind. From what we can see in the trailer, he spends the rest of the movie hunting down the man who nearly ruined his life, though it’s unclear from the trailer who that is – either the Recruiter (Jed Rees) or Ajax (Ed Skrein). Either which way, said man is after Wade’s girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), and that is something he won’t stand for.
I have to say I’m curious as to how they’ll execute Deadpool’s character. For the non-comic readers out there, in the comics, Deadpool is fully aware of the fourth wall and what’s on the other side of it – that is, he pokes fun at the fact that he’s a comic book character, and he’ll make references to real-world events that have nothing to do with what’s happening in the comics. You can’t really have Deadpool without that aspect of his character – one of the many reasons Deadpool fans were upset with X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE – so a Deadpool movie that’s true (or at least truer) to the comics will need to find a way to include his utter disdain for the fourth wall, and if the trailer is anything to go by, they’ve done it in style.
Also, I’m stoked to see Colossus (Andre Tricoteux/Stefan Kapičić) on the big screen again, but that’s definitely personal preference.
Overall, I’m excited to see DEADPOOL; as far as I’m concerned, February 12th can’t come fast enough. What do you guys think? Watch the trailers below and let me know!
