PACIFIC RIM 2 Rises From the Deep Starring John Boyega

Legendary announced this morning that they have cast John Boyega (STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS) as the lead in PACIFIC RIM 2. While his character is still yet unnamed, we do know that he is the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost. PACIFIC RIM 2 will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s DAREDEVIL) and will begin production later this year. Guillermo del Toro will stay on as producer and will be joined by Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni, and Mary Parent.

Boyega himself tweeted the announcement this morning, and he seems pretty happy about it:

Personally, I’m so excited for this I’m having trouble putting words in front of one another. Having a PACIFIC RIM sequel officially confirmed after being in limbo for so long and having John Boyega of all people step into the lead role as the son of Stacker Pentecost (talk about a legacy!) is more than I could have asked for. Hopefully Travis Beacham will still be writing it; he hasn’t announced anything at the time of this article. That said, I absolutely cannot wait to see what del Toro will do next with this franchise.

Are you excited for a PACIFIC RIM sequel? Who else would you like to see cast in the film? What do you think the new Jaegers, if there are any, will be named? Comment below and I’ll see you in the Drift!
